Raising capital is difficult, if not impossible, for small businesses when seeking capital from investors who stand to gain only a return on their investment (ROI). Raising capital is easier, with a higher probability of success, a lower cost and time of raising capital and possibly a lower price of money when seeking capital from ‘stakeholders’ – people who stand to benefit from the success of an organization without making an investment. When these investor candidates do consider investing, they are more motivated since they get a twofer. Knowing who these people are and what motivates them guides the design, staging and conduct of capital campaigns with better results.
